I am fascinated by the existence of life in harsh desert climates. So when I saw this scene at a rest stop along an Idaho highway, I got out my scratchboard. This scene was created from an on-site sketch (scratch?) and my photos. This area is full of beautiful volcanic rock with twisted, gnarled juniper trees flourishing among them.
