For this piece, the client told me he wanted a bighorn ram in scratchboard. I already had reference photos from a trip to the Bison Range National Wildlife Refuge.

I have always found bighorns to be very proud and impressive animals. I wanted to convey that innate regality. I also wanted the piece to large enough that the viewer could appreciate the intricate texture of his massive horns.
