Midstream: Common mergansers Colored Pencil on Canson 7" x 6" A few years ago in early spring, we stopped at a park at the mouth of the Deschutes River. These common mergansers were resting on a flat rock amid the tumbling waters. They were still in the process of pairing up and had not begun nesting yet. As is common among birds, the male is the more striking black-and-white specimen but the female is still lovely in gray and rust. Back to the Mini Artwork Gallery page | |
